We run a series of small group, interactive training sessions to help you feel more confident in welcoming and including disabled children and young people in your activities.
This fun and inclusive training programme is organised by Active Impact and funded by Gloucestershire County Council. The sessions are free to staff, volunteers and individuals who provide activities for children and young people (aged 0 – 25) in Gloucestershire who’d like to develop their skills and confidence in welcoming disabled children and young people to what they offer.

Our training offer
Inclusion Needs You Training
Inclusion Needs You is a two day training course designed for those working with children and young people (aged 0-25) in Gloucestershire.
The training is co-delivered by teams of two trainers who each have a mix of lived and professional experience including disabled and neurodivergent trainers and parent carers.
We welcome people from playgroups, nurseries, childminders, youth groups, theatre, dance and music groups, outdoor activities, forest schools, uniformed youth groups, gaming, STEM, coding clubs, leisure activity groups, community groups and venues, sports and arts clubs.
Inclusion Needs You takes place four times a year at a range of locations across the county.
During the interactive training you will gain an introduction to inclusive practice and the Social Model of Disability plus practical inclusion tips including adapting activities, providing assistance and giving good quality advance information.
Neurodiversity Training - Understanding and Supporting Neurodivergent Children and Young People
This is an introductory session exploring autism and ADHD for children’s activity providers and builds on the theoretical and practical knowledge gained through our Inclusion Needs You training sessions.
Increase your understanding of Autism, ADHD and wider Neurodevelopmental conditions and gain ideas about how to include neurodivergent young people in your activities.
This is an interactive session co-delivered by Neurodivergent Trainers who have extensive experience in autism support and research and are also Parent Carers to neurodivergent young people.
Neurodiversity Workshop - Including Neurodivergent Children and Young People; a Practical Workshop
‘Including Neurodivergent children and Young People – a Practical Workshop’ is a half-day session led by Neurodivergent trainers and parent carers. We use evidence based, Neuro-affirming principles developed by Autistic Health Researchers.
This follow-on workshop offers the opportunity to:
– explore common barriers to participation in more depth
– develop an understanding of the Autistic SPACE Framework
– Apply the framework’s principles to adapt your organisation’s work practicesThis workshop is suitable for anyone who works on an individual or group basis offering activities for children and young people in Gloucestershire and has previously attended our Neurodiversity training (Understanding and supporting Neurodivergent children and Young People)
